About San Antonio
Feral Cat Coalition

San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition, a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Corporation, is organized to address issues related to feral cats in the San Antonio area. We are all volunteers and serve to improve the welfare of feral cats in our community through a variety of means to reduce their populations through humane programs. A brief history of our organization is available here.

Mission

To improve the lives of homeless and feral cats and eliminate their breeding in the San Antonio area through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), educate the public about the plight of stray and feral cats and the need to spay/neuter pets, support feral cat caretakers and gain recognition of the beneficial role they perform, and promote the adoption of long-term, caretaker-based solutions regarding feral cats.

Vision

Our vision is to have a community where no kittens are born wild on the street, where no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and where no adult feral cats go wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern.

Purpose

Our purpose and commitment are to:

  • Facilitate the work of caretakers in caring for feral cats and controlling feral cat population growth.
  • Provide a communication network and support resources for caretakers.
  • Project a strong unifying voice for feral cat caretakers and their colonies.
  • Work with and educate property decision makers and governmental agencies in appropriate and humane solutions for feral cats.
  • Implement and manage programs that benefit the constituencies we serve.
  • Provide a viable alternative to euthanasia, through spay/neuter, vaccination, release and ongoing managed care of unsocialized cats, and adoption of tame cats and kittens.
  • Promote community awareness of the responsible care and treatment of animals.

What We're Working On

  • Getting city animal control policies changed to endorse Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)
  • Creating a feral cat network of caregivers and rescuers to encourage working together, sharing experiences, information, and support
  • Assisting people in starting their own managed cat colony by providing information, expertise, advice, support and traps
  • Compiling a list of veterinarians who will spay/neuter and vaccinate at no or low cost
